Bruins Academy is a television series created by the Boston Bruins specifically for kids who love hockey! This focused campaign utilizes broadcast tv, mobile app, clubs and events to bring a heightened awareness to the benefits of hockey for future generations of fans. The Boston Bruins called upon Chameleon DG to bring consistency to the multiple verticals, that included creating a graphics package for the show. Hosted by Emmy award-winning sports personality Charlie Moore, Bruins Academy takes the viewer up-close and personal with the Boston Bruins. In every 30 minute episode, kids discover new possibilities, learn how to develop their skills, and achieve their hockey goals through detailed segments including "Teaching the Game" and "The Science of Hockey".

The Boston Bruins Marketing & Communication teams reached out to Chameleon to help solve their brand extension dilemma. The Bruins Academy identity needed to be one overarching brand that integrates one cohesive look and feel throughout all marketing channels providing more programs and resources for the young hockey enthusiast with opportunities for cross promotions, sponsorships, and revenue generation.

The mission statement of "Positive Youth Development Through Hockey", set the tone when developing the tagline for the Bruins Academy overarching brand. Three core values truly encapsulated the essence of the brand: Discover the possibilities. Develop your skill. Achieve your goals. “Discover. Develop. Achieve.”

TV SHOW
The Bruins were finishing up the initial production the new Bruins Academy series, when internal discussions expanded the overall vision for the campaign. With the air date already set, Chameleon was tasked with the challenge of quickly building a full show graphics package within a compressed production schedule, while strategically collaborating on how to bridge the creative gap between the tv show & mobile kid app, giving the Bruins options for alternative uses and brand expansion across all media platforms. The graphics needed to appeal to younger viewers yet evoke an elevated production value.
In its first season, Bruins Academy was awarded the Best Sports Series Emmy and Best Children/Youth Series Emmy by the Boston/New England chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences at the 39th Boston/New England Emmy Awards Ceremony. The nominated episode of Bruins Academy, which focused on the excitement surrounding the 2016 NHL Winter Classic. The series premiere featured Bruins players reflecting on playing outdoor hockey as kids, how the Bruins Equipment Staff was preparing the team for the big game and a “Sports Science” segment on how to build an outdoor rink. Bruins Academy is a fast-paced, educational Black & Gold themed program created for youth who love the game of hockey.
